A bilateral cleft lip child is seen at the OPD. The kid has URI and looks sick .A diagnosis of Kartagener syndrome is made .Should you operate?

Surgery is contraindicated in any cleft child with an upper  respiratory tract infection

Treat the condition first and operate later

Kartagener is characterised by situs inversus, broncho cilary dysplasia and dextrocardia. Children with this syndrome have repeated attacks of  LRTI and should not be operated .
