As a manager I would prefer employee who have an initiative, not only me ( most managers do ), since manager looking always looking for one who can they put their loads on him-her and prepare him-her to be the next manager.

Someone who can take initiative because that shows responsibility, confidence and sense of urgency. The sought after employee is one who is able to think and act accordingly without being told every single action to take.

For me both or depends on the situation. There is a situation that need and urgent solution inbehalf of the management but its better we have coordination and ask first their sides and say what is your suggestion.

That depends on your own management style. A micromanager will prefer people who await orders and expect their hand to be held along the way (people who want to be micromanaged), while if you are not a micromanager (and don't like to be micromanaged) you will not want to micromanage your staff - thus you will prefer staff with initiative and resolve.

I always prefer a subordinate who takes initiative because taking initiative shows energy and motivation. Such a subordinate is always a great asset for the team.

As a manager, I prefer a subordinate who have an initiative because on the actual field, schedule have irregularities and I am not always there beside him to give instruction every time. A subordinate have common sense that he should do what he thinks it will help our department to make progress or gain success.
