What are the main factors that can affect human development?

I think that praise and blame are two factors that, respectively, can positively and negatively affect human behavior.  

From the early years of life and throughout, positive reinforcement can uplift moral and effectively gauge and direct our actions and behavior.  Whereas blame can scoff at our self-assuredness and instigate self-doubt.
