I don't really know, but I decided to find everything myself because I knew that I'd have to pay the moving company, and I wanted to lower the spendings. I managed to find the perfect house without any problems, and long distance movers helped me get all my stuff to my new house, so the moving process wasn't problematic at all.

As the real estate office has plenty of choices, it would be a good choice in case you don't have enough time to search the net or to go around looking for a house.
Some prefer to do that by themselves.
But for me, I would go for a real estate office, explain what I want and where, tell him about my budget (More or less) and save my time and efforts.

It depends on in which part of the world you reside. In some countries you have no option but to go through an agent. If I have the choice I will definitely look for a new house on my own, esp nowadays you can do it easily over the net, and thus you will end up saving a lot of money.
