As we know most agencies have both teams separated and only communicating for briefing & debriefing sessions which is very wrong, I think teams should include both marketing & creative people working & meeting clients together in order to achieve more effective & efficient campaigns to have more impact on the market
Images play far more important role in communication with target audience as compared to the words. Hence Graphics design team needs to be in sync with the Marketing and communication strategy makers. Making sure that both teams understand the target segment and their information processing factors alike.
After you’ve met with the client and have a firm understanding of the task at hand, it’s now time to put your nose to the grindstone. After reviewing the materials given to you you can start research. This phase usually entails taking into account competitors, market trends, product/service differentiators, the history of the business, and the future of it as well.

Ask the design team to put themselves in the shoes of the end user/consumer of what is being sold. Then ask them how they would like it to be sold to them. Then ask them to put it into a creative medium and present to the marketing team.
You've to involve them in each client work talk about the client perspective and what is their visual make them be contributed into the client imaginary and understanding their concept, knows how the client think and feel towards their stuff, i think this how you can make them be involved in the process.
