In which areas do we prefer casting and forging?

Forged items are work hardened to reach toughness /Hardness and Malleable Properties. Also Forging is done on a casted Item to increase the Mechanical Properties. The Micro structure of forged item is Elongated grain along the axis's of load application. Casted items are either Brittle or through Heat treatment or by some strengthening process Mechanical properties can be improved to the required application. as an example Crank shaft is a forged item where as Piston sleeves are ductile casting and Machined.
