Social media is more effective then ordinary techniques in marketing ?

I am of opinion this depend on your target audience.

Little research will tell us how much targeted market use social media.

e.g. If we are marketing a product or service in market where use of social is common than okay or otherwise use of ordinary marketing techniques will suffice the need.
