Yes they are the same. It is a latin term which was first coined in the 1782 by some lord(I don't remember now) of England of looking at the old Judgment to apply the same in the current case in hand. Thanks.

stare decisis is a principle applied in common law which means the lower court must follow the upper courts decisions, especially the court of appeal or the high court. It is actually a Latin principle which means let the decision stand. The precedents is only an interpretation to that principle , so , they are the same in the legal language.
