Total head is based on first the flow rate is set and then based on the flow rate the pipe is sized and then based on that size the friction factor for the type of pipe is found out and then based on that the friction loss in pipe is found out ,for the fittings you can use two method one is k factor for the fittings generally employed in chilled water pipe and other method is equivalent length of pipes adding up the total head and friction loss we get the total head in psi,bar,mtr or feet

in case transfer pump for over head tank filling .total height and horizontal pipe length and number of bent 

 in case booster pump installing ground tank check last point  height .and how much bar presser need

in case roof top pressure pump installation check how much bar pressure need

total pump head = height from lowest point to the highest point + friction due to pipes and fitting to the last point + working pressure of the sprinkler
