Typically, how do you find inspiration when brainstorming to come up with the BIG IDEA?

Well, brainstorming is just that, a storm of ideas that fly free like the wind and fall hard like the rain.  The Big Idea as you say is the summation of each and every small comment or expression no matter how far off the grid.  Relate those words and concepts to all the six senses of sight, color, smell, touch, taste, and intuition and you will have a mind-map that will lead you to say 'Eureka!!' , and voila, mission accomplished!
