The brainstorming technique is an unconventional method of gathering creative solutions to a problem.  Group brainstorming rivals lateral thinking by allowing the group to unleash spontaneous ideas fueled by the relaxed informal setting. In a group setting, 'off the top of the head' ideas can be bounced off one another, further simulating a mind mapping of imaginative and unlimited ideas and solutions derived from the group's diverse experience.  Group brainstorming is usually implemented as a first step to solving complex problems; individual brainstorming is beneficial for simpler problem solving and fosters uninhibited expression and results.
