To understand the difference between Photoshop & Illustrator you have to first understand the difference between Raster & Vector.

Raster Graphics are based on pixels which means the picture will be perfect until seen or printed at% size or smaller, but if it is transformed bigger than its original size, it will lose its resolution and become pixelated.

Vector graphics are path based which is mathematical shape, meaning what you see as circle on screen, computer reads it as a mathematical algorithm and thats why no matter how big the shape is, it wont lose its crispness (meaning wont be pixelated).

Now when you know the difference between Raster and Vector. It will be easy to understand how these two softwares differ from each other. Photoshop is made to handle Raster Images where as Illustrator's main purpose is to handle vector graphics.Thats why it is a good practise (and from experience the only way) is to make logos and other scalable stuff in Illustrator, and for the images that need effects and lots of photo manipulation we use photoshop.

Even thou with current advancements in #Adobe, we can use vector objects in photoshop while keeping them vector instead of converting into Raster, it is called Smart Object. Which retains the object as vector file within photoshop.

Hope it is clear now, Thanks

Photoshop is a pixel based program, that means it can manipulate amd edit everything that have pixels.

Illustrator is a vector based program, that means it can create and edit vectors , and vector it any drawing without pixels such as drawing a rectangle or a circle.

Adobe Photoshop

Everything in Photoshop is just a series of pixels, so if you’re scaling something up or down, it can lose its quality very quickly. Photoshop is a popular choice for web graphics, photo editing and designs since those projects will stay at a fixed size.

Editing photos is awesome in Photoshop, because it includes a lot of unique filters, special effects and tools.

Another great benefit of Photoshop is that you can have complete control of your projects, since you can edit your graphic pixel-by-pixel.

Adobe Illustrator

Illustrator uses mathematical constructs to create vector graphic. In Illustrator, a line is composed of two dots connected by a computer algorithm, instead of just a line of pixels.

Because of this, Illustrator is used often to create logos or anything that may need to be printed or displayed at different sizes. A vector graphic will never lose its quality if it’s scaled up or down.

Illustrator will also give you a better print output since it’s not resolution dependent.

A drawback of Illustrator is that it can’t be used easily to modify images that are already created, since there are limited filters and image editing tools available to you.

Photoshop uses raster graphics.. illustrator uses vector images primarily. vector images can be scaled up to any size without any loss in resolution, whereas a raster image will pixelate. it depends on what you intend using it for really and what your needs as a comic book artist are.
