in generator we have plenty oil sensor namely lub oil pressure sensor which is very important to insure proper lubrication in the system, sump tank oil level sensor to detect that your lubrication of oil level is still good, we have oil mist detector sensor to prevent from crankshaft explosion, oil in water sensor to prevent from water mix in oil all of these sensor are essential to prevent the system from wear and tear property of machine.
Oil sensor is used to sense the oil pressure in the engine, when ever the oil pressure is under the accepted limits it will make a short/open circuit such that the controller will stop the engine
Oil is used as a lubricant in engine and sometimes for generators bearings at both end .
It acts as guage and help to sense thermo-cuple ...
i am using oil sensor in GEHO PUMP ITS IN alumina refinery to wash away mud seperation to Red Mud Pond thing is in this GEHO pump hydraulic pistons are used for washing out mud for hydraulic piston we are using oil for its lubrication purpose i have oil tank in this oil contamination sensor is used for determining oil contamination purpose to replace new oil when its density gets drier what i am used i said but same you are using means this answer is relevant but generator i dono its new for me i can ask some electrical professionals for this answer
