Yes, I agree the design needs to be on a good and solid foundation and has structural integrity... some areas need earth quake prove foundations ...others are build in the ocean or near the beach...
I believe the first thing needs to be looked at the location of the building and the geological site where it is to be build
As structural design , I focus on soil skeleton and the bearing capacity of soil ,so I can determine the appropriate foundation
As a civil engineer I think the priority is to structure
Branding, Brand name and Product look atractive
Color and Texture (which gives the mood) is my priority to focus in every design.
I always focus on different type of structures, looking at the architectural design and budget. The architect is leading but the engineer can advice on costly parts
