computer engineering

Software Engineering, Software and Web Developing and Design along with project management.
Concentrate on developing ERP systems as well.
That's the trend in IT industry nowadays in the middle east.
You will not apply or practice what you learn in Computer Engineering as there is no Hardware production or development in the middle east, you will feel sorry for your self.
If you decided to study Computer Engineering, focus on software, web and programming courses and specialize in them.

Infract both fields have almost same weightage, probably computer engineering is more in because of lots of IT service provider companies.
If you choose computer engineering then you have to go for certifications like ccna, ccnp, mcp etc that always requires to update every year or2.
If you choose software engineering then you need to go for some certifications like oracle ebusiness suite or SAP or Microsoft.
I personally believe software engineering is a little bit easier than computer engineering because once you are certified in any ERP application that is enough for your carrier.
There are not much changes in newer versions of the ERP, the base remains same.
Therefore it depends on you are you ready to update your certifications each year or you just want to enjoy the smooth and stable path like ERP that is software engineering.

software engineering is best for middle east

Don't pick a subject to major in just because it is 'hot' thats the wrong strategy, and likely to backfire.
As more often than not, these 'hot' jobs change.
You need to take control of your education and study what you find interesting, and if you find security interesting, then you need to study it on your own.
A college degree is great as a way to get your foot in the door, but it isn't the best way to decide what to do with your life.
Pick up security side projects and freelance in the security sector.

I hold a Computer Engineering Degree and I have learnt many fields of computer science during my program.
I have learnt Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Database, Computer Networks, Electrical Engineering and Designing.
I have done my specialization in Circuit Designing.
But look now I working as a Software Engineer.
The main thing to be mentioned here that Computer Engineering is very flexible you gain more knowledge for different fields and at the end you can easily decide which specialization is suitable for you.
As for as my recommendation Computer Engineering is best as Software Engineering is a part of it.
If in sometime you realize you are good at software then get some technical elective and make your specialization in software simply.
I have seen many jobs being posted here over bay.com.
So it could be a good choice too.

You may consider the IT sector as a major area in the world as well as in the middle east.
But, If you want to get more benefit from the job you need to learn Project (IT) Management System after completing Software Engineering or Computer Engineering.

In my opinion, it all depends on your interest.
Both computer engineering and software engineering are active in absorbing job seekers.
You may not take the current situation (where computer engineering is not as hot as software engineering in the Middle East).
The future is always uncertain.
After you finish your study, things may change.
So, follow your internal derive to pursue either of the fields.
On the other hand, if you consider the global arena and you are interested in both fields and you believe you will be competent enough if you study either of them, I would advise you to go for software engineering with special emphasis on web-based applications and project management.
Because, if you are software engineer, you may work online from anywhere (including the Middle East) and earn income.

Here is the thing: it doesn't matter what you study.
You need to take control of your education and study what you find interesting, and if you find security interesting, then you need to study it on your own.
A college degree is great as a way to get your foot in the door, but it isn't the best way to decide what to do with your life.
Pick up security side projects and free-lance in the security sector
