what ever may be the industry Ill mannered person need to be changed his manners. One point we should note here is he/she IS GREAT ACHIEVER, surely there attitude may not be negative and it is for the HR to counsel him/her to rectify the ill mannered behavior. By explaining them of their strengths and also how his/her ill mannered behaviors affects their personality and career.

We have  to concentrate  on and encourage the positive achievements of the ill mannered person and to let him /her  attend special training on human behavior keeping him under control for more future responsibilities in one hand and to understand the reasons behind his negative attitude  in the other hand helping him/her to be a positive member among the group.

Depends on the industry, but since he/she are Great achievers that can only mean that their manners are not standing in the way. Therefore, i would leave him/her doing what they are doing, BUT isolate them from the rest of the team.

 

Isolation is extremely important in that case, because the last thing you need at the workplace is to have this person's ill manners drive good employees out of the company.

 

Promotion is not an option... while financial rewards is reasonable.

In todays time and age a human is most hungry for appreciation. When a responsible employee is performing exceptionally well it is always a good idea to praise him in front of other once in a while when he least expects it. It helps boost morale and keeps ego is check.

 

However personally being made aware that his hardwork isnt going unnoticed and good things will come his way is always a good way to retain good resource. Some monetary benefits or perks too never hurt anybody. 

 

As far as ill mannered employees go, they need to be made to realize what they are doing wrong and sensing from how they take the advise depends the next step whether to be supportive or be strict. 

However it is always a better practice to get rid of a bad fish before the pond begins to go foul. A Stern disciplinary action once in a while helps keep others in check. Usually such problems have already developed roots at lower levels before they reach the manager hence the disciplinary resolve.
