How should we incorporate television into language teaching? Will it hold a positive or a negative influence?

My English Language Teacher once advised me to listen carefully to the English dialogue as I read the translated subtitles at the bottom of the screen, and it worked! Since then, I can hardly finish a movie without learning, or at least, remembering an English word.
