How to trace a skype IP address?

Use a site like WhatIsMyIPAddress.com or IP Tracker to find information about the IP address and internet host as well as its geographical location. This can help you learn more about the user and verify that you have the right IP address.

Sadly (or not) you just cannot do this all the time.

While making a call using Skype assuming your friend is on his real IP (no VPN for example):

- If you are lucky, your client will gets connected to your friend directly. The connection will then be visible using a netstat command and reflect your real friend's ip.

- In most of the case, you both are behind a NAT or a firewall with no policy about incoming Skype call. You are therefore both connected to a Skype server in between and therefore cannot retrieve your friend's ip using netstat

- You could be both in a perfect situation without any NAT / firewall or perfect settings but the caller is not into your contact list and either you or him has chosen to disable the "Allow direct connections to your contacts only." in this case you explicitly forced Skype to use their server in-between and cannot retrieve one's ip address. Note: This option can be found in tools/options/advances/connection in the desktop Skype only.
