Very interesting question and I do say that we should not be bias in any such personality trait. In past and currently we are few individual who are overweight but this does not hamper their performance or working. But I have seen where individual are over looked due to their weight issue or on outlook basis and this usually happens at jobs related to public dealing or fashion / media related position where they prefer fancy faces. I believe this is discrimination and being in HR we should avoid it and convince the heads to ignore such factors. Here other than HR the technical heads are also responsible for that because are selling candidates to them and this is they who make their final decision not solely HR.

Hi

It should not if the person concerned is not  too much overweight.

A medical check  is part of the recruitment process. if a person is physicaly fit he/she should be hired.

But yes for indoor sales jobs  or that of a air host/hostess ones figure is ones asset. Here one cannot afford to be overwiight. This is also true in the hospitality industry. Also if you are a news reader , tv anchor you need to watch your weight.

Yes I do agree with you. I want to give an examle, few days back when I was an interview board two members were marking highest comparatively to me. However, he was not enough competent as my evaluation but we did not have alternative suitable candidate. For that reasons, he was finally selected so that other interviewer bad marking hamper to choose the right people to the ight job.

In some jobs the over weight may be compensated (Like in management roles, supervision, etc) but in others where agility, swiftness, promptnessand flexiblity is important (e.g Technical or labour jobs etc.) the weight must be an important consideration.
